About This Book

In this beautifully illustrated retelling, your child stars in an adventure inspired by The Three Little Pigs. Across 19 watercolor spreads, your child crosses the river into Pigtown to help Pip, Pop, and Penny build their houses, one at a time, learning what makes a house truly hold: the right foundation, the right materials, and the right plan. Caregivers cheer them on and coach from the near bank, and optional visitors (grandparents, neighbors, best friends) arrive on moving day and gather for the cozy evening coda. With your family's photos transformed into warm illustrations, the whole household becomes part of the story: the star, up to two caregivers, up to two siblings, up to five visitors, and one family pet (a dog or cat).

Written for your child's reading level

Same story, same characters, same art. The words are rewritten for four age bands so the book grows with your reader. We pick the level automatically from your child's age.

Ages 5–6

Early reader
Grade 1.6~7 words/sentence

Short sentences and everyday words, one idea at a time.

The same line, at this level
That night the wolf came down the valley. He was sneezing and shivering. He went straight for Pop’s brand-new house.

Ages 7–8

Growing reader
Grade 3.4~10 words/sentence

Flowing sentences with a few clauses. Our default level.

The same line, at this level
That night the wolf came down the valley, sneezing and shivering, straight for Pop’s brand-new house.

Ages 9–10

Confident reader
Grade 5.0~13 words/sentence

Richer vocabulary and longer, more descriptive sentences.

The same line, at this level
That night the wolf came prowling down the valley, sneezing and shivering in the cold, and bore straight for Pop’s brand-new house.

Ages 11–12

Independent reader
Grade 6.5~15 words/sentence

Literary phrasing, layered clauses, the fullest word choice.

The same line, at this level
That night the wolf came prowling down the valley, sneezing and shivering against the bitter cold, and bore straight for Pop’s brand-new house.
How we set each level. Every band is a complete rewrite of all 158 lines, not a trimmed version. We check each one two ways: a Flesch–Kincaid grade level measured on the actual book text (shown above), and a craft rubric covering sentence length, vocabulary difficulty, and clause complexity. Younger bands use shorter sentences and simpler words; older bands add nuance and length. The grade levels sit a little below each age on purpose, so the story reads easily for pleasure rather than like a worksheet.
